third winners of annual further education competition

Since January, colleges across the UK have been taking part in Planet Earth Games, the UK’s biggest sustainability competition for the further education sector.  The format empowers young leaders to create their own sustainability events and activities and creates a fun and friendly competition between colleges and sixth forms, with points and badges available for student and staff participation.

The climax of the annual event came on Earth Day (22 April) and this year’s winners were Bradford College, who will become the third college to collect the bamboo trophy, following Derby College (2021/22) and Keighley College (2022/23).  Runners up were Heart of Worcestershire College and third place went to Castleford College (see the top 20 below). In total, there were 3212 sustainable actions submitted by participants in the lead up to Earth Day.

Chris Broadbent, Founder and CEO of Planet Earth Games said: “Once again, it has been truly inspiring seeing the commitment, innovation and passion for sustainability from students taking part in Planet Earth Games. Each year, we are humbled by the creativity from young people and this year was no different, challenges ranged from Scavenger Hunts to Plastic Free Canteen Campaigns to Outdoor Yoga and Sports Kit Recycling.

“Our partnership with Association of Colleges Sport has been really beneficial for both parties and a catalyst for climate action, active wellbeing, connecting to nature and developing green leadership skills on campuses and in communities across the UK.
