WWF and RSPB course for form part of Further Education programme
Award-winning sustainable sports charity Planet Earth Games Trust and Leadership Skills Foundation are partnering up for the 2024/25 Planet Earth Games Further Education competition delivered in collaboration with the Association of Colleges.
This new partnership will add even more value to young people in Further Education who are developing important leaderships skills through this annual competition, now entering its fourth year.
Students develop skills in leading localised delivery of Planet Earth Games from each participating college in their campus and in communities.
This partnership builds on the practical delivery with an accredited Level 2 leadership skills qualification through the WWF, RSPB and Leadership Skills Foundation’s Environment Leaders Programme.
Through the Environment Leaders Programme, students will develop their essential leadership skills through planning, delivering and reflecting on nature and environment activities and projects.
Using their leadership skills, students influence their peers to increase environment and climate awareness, develop social action communities and become advocates and influencers.
This will enable colleges to support a bigger and better student enrichment offer and experience by supporting through an increase in delivery resource that maximises staff capacity.
To achieve the accredited qualification students will be completing the activities and requirements of the Planet Earth Games programme, evidencing this through a bespoke workbook which will allow them to reflect on their achievements and act as a log for future showcases and experiences.
Chris Broadbent, Chief Executive, Planet Earth Games, said: “One of the core objectives of the Planet Earth Games Further Education programme is for young people to develop essential green leadership skills for the future. So, we are delighted to collaborate with an organisation of the standing of the Leadership Skills Foundation in this area.
“Since 2021, there have been some significant legacy projects from this programme from some incredibly innovative sustainability initiatives, led by young people across the UK. With expert guidance and a qualification from the Leadership Skills Foundation, there is now a formal pathway from Planet Earth Games towards careers in sustainability taking part in the programme.”
Lucy Supperstone, Director of Innovation and Standards, Leadership Skills Foundation said: "We are thrilled to be supporting Planet Earth Games this year, students will now get the opportunity to achieve recognition through a Level 2 qualification for their endeavours and their fantastic environment and climate work.
"This recognition will allow them to showcase their experiences and will support their future progression.”
